Our working culture

Employees at Hobart Water are extremely passionate about what they do, because they know how precious water is. There is an open door policy at Hobart Water, with even the CEO having her door open at all times!

A traditionally male-dominated industry, Hobart Water employs many female staff in the range of fields including engineering, production & supply and water infrastructure.

Leap

Leap is Hobart Water's Health & Wellbeing Program, which aims to help staff create and foster a healthy work/life balance through offering a range of healthy activities and information sessions. Hobart Water hosts regular speakers who present to staff on a range of topics, from nutrition to personal motivation.

Healthy subsidies are also a major part of LEAP, these include:

  • One-off financial contribution towards gym memberships or other sporting group membership,
  • Free & confidential counselling for staff and families,
  • Immunisations,
  • Participation in national healthy initiatives e.g. Global Challenge,
  • Sponsorship to attend corporate fun runs,
  • A welcome kit for new staff which includes a backpack, cap, drink bottle, leap stress ball and safety bottle opener.

Training

Hobart Water is committed to providing training and support for all its employees. This is identified in the Strategic Corporate Plan, where it states the average days of training per employee will receive each year will be more than seven.

In addition to external training and conference attendance, Hobart Water has introduced a Workforce Development Program which incorporates a leadership program, the profiling of workforce skills and competencies, and succession planning.

The program aims to ensure the right skills and capabilities are present in the organisation to achieve business goals now and in the future. The program also allows for career progression and increased leadership skills through training and workshops.

Staff Awards

In 2006 Hobart Water launched its inaugural staff awards. The awards were developed to give recognition to staff who excel in specific areas within the business.
