Environmental Management

Hobart Water ensures respect for the Tasmanian environment through its internal Environmental Policy and Environmental Management System.

Environmental Policy

Hobart Water has an over-arching Environmental Policy which outlines the organisation's commitment to the environment. The main points in the policy state that Hobart Water will:

  • comply with relevant statutory and agreed environmental requirements,
  • operate in a manner that minimises pollution and environmental impacts of our operations and activities,
  • continually improve environmental management through the operation of an Environmental Management System, and
  • involve customers, suppliers, contractors, stakeholders and the community in planning projects and activities that may have environmental impact or risk.

Environmental Management System

In order to achieve our commitment to the environment stated in the Environmental Policy, Hobart Water has established an Environmental Management System (EMS).
The EMS is a structured management system which allows Hobart Water to identify, assess and control its impacts on our environment to minimise negative environmental impacts.

The standard by which our EMS was created is based on the international standard: ISO: 14001. In order for our EMS to be certified against the international standard, an external audit was conducted by a registered, authorised company.

Certification requires Hobart Water to comply with all elements of ISO: 14001 and therefore six monthly external audits are conducted to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
