Environmental Projects

Hobart Water's environmental team are constantly involved in a diverse range of environmental projects given the vast expanse of our operations. Take a look at some of our current and past projects. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our environment team.

Some of the Environment team's current projects include:

St Crispins Well interpretation platform

St Crispins Well is one of many Hobart Water intakes on Mt Wellington and is accessible by the public. A heritage-listed site, it has traditionally been a destination for local walkers. As part of NRM South funded project, Hobart Water has managed works to install an interpretation platform at the site.

The platform aims to enhance visitor enjoyment with the using a design that will be sympathetic to the natural, cultural and water supply values.

On-ground works commenced in late March and should be completed by the end of September.

Derwent River drinking water catchment management plan

Hobart Water began the development of the Derwent River Drinking Water Catchment Management Plan in February 2006.

The project involved a consultative committee and extensive local stakeholder communication. The plan is now complete and will be progressively implemented over the coming months. To read the plan, click here.

Illa Brook drinking water catchment management plan

Hobart Water has begun work on the Illa Brook drinking water catchment management plan for the Derwent Valley Council.

Clean up Australia Day 2007

Hobart Water staffers took part in the annual Clean up Australia Day at Risdon Brook Park. The most commonly collected pieces of rubbish were cigarette butts, lollypop sticks and tissues. The day was organised by the Environment team and volunteers were treated with a barbecue for their hard work.
