Hobart water projects

The first soil has been turned on Hobart’s eastern shore in a jointly-funded Clarence City Council / Hobart Water project to improve water pressure and availability in the Howrah-Warrane region.

The $4.8M project includes construction of a 9ML reservoir, three pipelines, two pump stations, a new disinfection station, together with associated infrastructure. Water in the newly added pipes will be sourced from water coming over the Bowen Bridge and Risdon Brook Dam, which stores treated water from the Bryn Estyn Water Plant for use during peak summer demands.

Earthworks have begun at Warrane for the large concrete reservoir. Three pipelines — one to Shoreline, one to Flagstaff Gully and one to Mornington — will be constructed over the coming 18 months.

Scheduled for completion in late 2008, the project was developed to meet the predicted growth of the Clarence municipality using 30 year horizon figures.
