Schools Program

Hobart Water supports secondary education students by offering work experience in a number of fields. If you wish to submit your details, Hobart Water will endeavour to accommodate your work experience requirements.

Hobart Water also periodically offers traineeships and apprenticeships in various areas of the organisation. Requirements are a High School Certificate and full on-the-job training is provided by Hobart Water for successful applicants. Hobart Water is registered to offer Certificate in Water Operations II & III.

'I first came to Hobart Water early in April 2006 as a year 12 VET work experience student from Guilford Young College. Little did I know that 9 months later I would be working here full time, completing a traineeship in Business Administration.

I felt really fortunate to be able to tell my fellow students that before I had even left school, I had a full-time job waiting for me! Now I look after students who are completing the same course I had only completed the year before, which is pretty weird.

I get a broad experience working across many divisions at Hobart Water and it is definitely helpful to check off on my units of competency.

Hobart Water is a lovely place to work and it has been awesome as a first job to start. Everyone is really welcoming and the atmosphere has a 'family feel' about it. I especially felt that because when I moved out of home for the first time I had a lot of 'step in' mothers and aunts at Hobart Water - always telling me to drive safe and how long it takes to cook a chicken!

Being such an enjoyable place to work, Hobart Water has really helped transition from school to work and to grow as a person feeling more comfortable about myself and my skills.'
