National Water Organisations
Hobart Water is not only a leader in the Tasmanian water industry, but is also recognised as a leader in the Australian water industry.
We participate in both national and international benchmarking studies conducted by industry bodies such as Water Services Association of Australia and the Australian Water Association. This ensures Hobart Water is operating in accordance to best practice standards.
Hobart Water representatives regularly participate in national water industry forums or events and visit interstate water authorities.
Two of the major organisations in the Australian Water Industry are Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) and the Australian Water Association (AWA).
Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA)
The Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) is the peak body of the Australian urban water industry. Its 29 members and 27 associate members provide water and wastewater services to approximately 15 million Australians and many of Australia's largest industrial and commercial enterprises.
WSAA was formed in 1995 to provide a forum for debate on issues of importance to the urban water industry and to be a focal point for communicating the industry's views.
As Australia's population continues to grow, mostly in cities, the community and the water industry face many environmental challenges to maintain and improve public health and community well-being.
WSAA's role, via its members, is to take a leadership role and position the water industry so that members can implement sustainable cost-effective solutions. WSAA achieves this through conducting focused strategic research, benchmarking, identifying 'best practice', monitoring industry performance and informing the water industry via Members' Meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences.

The Australian Water Association (AWA)
Established 1962, the Australian Water Association (AWA) is Australia's largest and broadest water industry association with more than 4,130 individual members of which 630 are corporate or utility members.
Members have access to the latest technical information, industry trends, opportunities to network and ongoing professional development.
Membership is multi-disciplinary and includes engineers, operators, regulators, scientists, consultants, educators, suppliers, manufacturers, contractors and academics. Its membership diversity ensures it has highly credible voice that represents the water industry in the broadest context at the national and international level.
AWA has a strong network of state and territory branches that provides members with easy access to state based regional trends, government policy and local issues, as well as access to international affiliations through the International Water Association's Australian national committee, IWAA. Hobart Water is involved in the Tasmanian AWA committee.
The AWA also run the Water Education Network (WEN), created in September 2004 with the appointment of a full-time Education Program Manager for the Association. AWA's Education Program Manager supports the WEN through a monthly electronic newsletter (WEN e-news), WEN Network Meetings, education pages on the AWA website and coordinating professional development opportunities for the network as required. The longer term objective is to develop a water web portal and a national searchable database of water education resources. The WEN is open to anyone with an interest or involvement in water education.
The AWA also runs National Water Week.
