Managing catchments

Catchment Management is a holistic approach to water quality management and is about how and which actions are taken to ensure our drinking water is sustainably protected and sourced in the natural environment.

Catchment Management Plans allow Hobart Water to assess potential risks to the quality of the catchment water and allow for improvements to be made to particular catchments.

Drinking water catchments are identified by special symbols and visitors to these areas should take care and follow drinking water catchment restrictions/requirements.

Drinking Water Catchment Management Plans

Hobart Water has developed and implemented Drinking Water Catchment Management Plans for Lake Fenton/Lady Barron Creek and Wellington Park Drinking Water Catchments and is currently in the process of completing a plan for the Derwent River Catchment.

These plans take several months to complete and require extensive field visits, investigations and consultation with stakeholders.

Hobart Water has written and implemented two Drinking Water Catchment Management Plans for the Lake Fenton and Mt Wellington Catchments and a draft plan has been written for the Derwent River Catchment.
