Hobart Water projects
2007 Projects
Works start at Ellendale - March
Work by Hobart Water to address problems at Ellendale’s Water Treatment Plant in the Central Highlands has commenced. According to Hobart Water’s project manager, Peter Barwick, a range of solutions have been identified and progress is now underway to take the plant to its full capacity.
Hobart Water will also help review data, monitor ongoing performance and identify opportunities for long term operational efficiencies.
Bryn Estyn electrical upgrades - March
As part of Hobart Water's $13 million upgrade of the Bryn Estyn Water Treatment Plant, major electrical replacements are currently underway.
The upgrades involve the replacement of both a 3.3kV subg electrical board, used to control the high lift pump units, and a 415V board used to control the low lift pump units.
Waterworks reservoirs get bluestone treatment
As part of its ongoing dam improvements, Hobart Water has completed lining parts of the waterline at Upper and Lower Reservoirs at Waterworks with bluestone.
By lining the edge of the reservoirs with rock, the effects of wave action are minimised, lessening surface run-off and thus improving the quality of the water.
2006 Projects
Cambridge Pipe Relocation - October 2006
This project involved the construction a new pipeline to enable the relocation of an existing easement for development purposes in the Cambridge area
Hobart Water delivered this project internally, with specialist contractors employed for various tasks including:
- Supply and on-site delivery of pipes and valves,
- 20T Excavator hire for excavating and rock breaking, and
- Supply and Installation of pipe bends.
Bryn Estyn - Ventilation Relocation Project - September 2006
As part of the Bryn Estyn upgrade the existing ventilation until in the pump station required relocation to accommodate the new 3.3kV switchboard.
The old unit was removed, the holes in the floor and walls filled and a new plenum chamber and fan units installed. Also new duct work was installed.
Risdon Brook Park sparkles! - September 2006
A program of improvements at Risdon Brook Park were completed with the arrival of a new hut and barbecue, installation of a new playground and the replacement of signs throughout the site.
"Over the past six months, we've really started working hard to bring the Park up to standard that will please the many people who visit it daily," said Dr Christine Mucha, CEO of Hobart Water.
Rock Pitching - May 2006
Rock Pitching was completed in 2006 at Lower and Upper Reservoirs. This work involved lining the waterline of both reservoirs with bluestone to prevent erosion and improve water quality.
New Chlorination station - February 2006
A new chlorination station at Bryn Estyn was officially opened by Christine Mucha, Project Manager Simon McCrossen and the entire contributing project team.
The construction of the new chlorination station was part of the Bryn Estyn Strategy, which focuses on progressively upgrading the plant. Other parts to the strategy involve a Lime & Polymer upgrades and Switchboard upgrade.
Bryn Estyn, Boom Intake - January 2006
This intake point at Bryn Estyn and is open to river debris, suspended solids, litter and other potential pollutants and the debris collected creates labour, operational, and disposal costs.
To solve the problem Hobart Water constructed a permanent floating boom designed to deflect the majority of the river debris prior to reaching the inlet screens.
