What you can do at Risdon Brook Park

There are a number of different facilities available for public use at Risdon Brook Park. These include barbecues, a 4.4km walking track, children's playground and disabled fishing bays. Hobart Water regularly maintains all facilities for the public to enjoy.

Risdon Brook Track

The track around Risdon Brook reservoir is approximately 4.4km in length which includes several hills. Hobart Water recommends at least a moderate fitness level to complete the track.

There are several benches along the track to rest or enjoy the scenery. Allow up to one and a half hours to complete the track and ensure you take sufficient fluids before you set out.

Many people use the reservoir track - cyclists, walkers, joggers, families and members of the Risdon Brook Radio Yacht Club. When on the track, please be alert and considerate to other visitors.

Stay on the track at all times and do not enter fenced off areas. Children should be supervised at all times whilst in the park and around the track.

Barbecues

There are six wood-fire barbecues available for use free of charge on a first-in-best-dressed basis. All wood is provided by Hobart Water.

There is one gas barbecue and adjoining hut available for booking at Risdon Brook Park. A $15 fee applies to book this hut and barbecue. We made this hut available for booking due to the large amount of calls from the public who wanted to ensure a hut was available for their gathering.

There are three sessions in which you can book the hut and gas barbecue:

  • Session 1: 7.30am - 10.30am
  • Session 2: 11.00am - 4.00pm
  • Session 3: 4.30pm - 9.00pm

You can make a booking by calling us on 6233 6533.

Disabled fishing bays

There are two disabled fishing bays at Risdon Brook Park. Access is off the main car park. The fish in the reservoir do not impact on the water's quality.

These fishing bays are available for disabled people and their attendants. Fishing is only permitted to those who display a Tasmanian Transport Access Scheme Permit on their vehicle and have a current Inland Fisheries Service angling licence.
